Heather Woof creates wire and chain structures using traditional jewellery making techniques with precious metals such as gold and silver. Inspired by the sense of playfulness, meditation and creative freedom, her making process often starts by drawing her ideas. "I love to create jewellery with movement, that has drape and flow on the body," says Heather. She began her professional career in 2010 after graduating from the jewellery programme at Edinburgh College of Art, an institution where she has also been teaching since 2019. "I aim for my jewellery to be worn, have significance to the wearer and communicate who they are," Heather explains.

Indulging in a life that prioritises creativity feels like the ultimate privilege. I love the opportunities that my profession has given me. To travel to places that I may not have otherwise visited and to meet and be around other creative people.
People are often surprised by the weight, scale and sense of movement in the objects that I create. The colour, the tactile feel of the pieces and the lightweight quality of titanium spark great curiosity in viewers.
My creative process often begins with drawing, to shape an abstract sense of what I want to achieve. I see myself as a maker at heart, and my ideas begin in my hands. They often come into focus gradually through drawing, making and working with materials.
There are so many routes to starting out as a jewellery designer and maker, and I firmly believe that there is no right or wrong way. Your biggest asset is building a strong sense of self and working on developing your own creative voice.
