A legacy in refined cabinetmaking

  • Dominique and Éric embark on every creation as a new challenge
  • They continue the work of the family workshop founded by their father in 1959
  • Their pieces bring historic craftsmanship to contemporary interiors

Dominique and Éric Sanson have practised cabinetmaking, marquetry and leatherwork since the mid-1980s. They grew up in the family workshop founded by their father, Raymond Sanson, before studying at École Boulle. Today, they create contemporary furniture rooted in the traditions of the great masters of the decorative arts. Made entirely by hand, their pieces combine wood, marquetry, leather and hardware designed and crafted in their workshop. Each commission brings its own technical challenges, leading them to develop new solutions while balancing function and aesthetics. Awarded the titles of Meilleur Ouvrier de France and Maître d'Art, the brothers continue to create unique pieces for clients around the world.

Dominique & Éric Sanson are master artisans: they began their career in 1985 and they started teaching in 1982.

INTERVIEW

Our profession never ceases to challenge us, because every piece presents new technical problems to solve. Each project is an opportunity to find the best solutions, to pursue ever higher standards of craftsmanship, and to remain attentive to the quality of every gesture and every detail.

Today, the hardware suited to making our works, such as secret locks, hinges, stays and mechanisms, is no longer available. We therefore design and manufacture it entirely in our workshop. This allows us to ensure complete harmony between the function and the aesthetics of every piece we create.

We see ourselves as heirs to the great masters of the past, whose work remains an enduring source of inspiration. At the same time, we refuse to let that heritage confine creativity to fixed models. Our aim is to keep these traditional skills alive by placing them at the service of the aesthetic expressions of the 21st century.

Every project is different. When a client has a very precise idea, our role is to bring it to life, drawing on our experience and craftsmanship. When the brief is more open, we develop one or more proposals accompanied by material samples. From there, a dialogue begins, based on exchange and mutual respect, until the final piece takes shape.
