This sculpture by Mingkai Zhou was crafted from red saggar clay using stacking and sculpting techniques. Once semi-dry, it was cut horizontally and hollowed. The edges were roughened and joined with slip before slow medium-temperature firing. Capturing the final stage of a seed's life cycle, as it reaches full bloom before returning to the earth, the work explores the poetic transition between growth and rebirth.
