Lacquer, Hemp, Gold, Cypress wood
This box by Yoshiaki Taguchi was crafted from cypress wood strips, and features an inrō lid design with mitred corners. The surface was coated with lacquer using the maki-e technique, and covered with hemp cloth to finish. In this traditional objet d'art, colours and motifs convey symbolic meaning: green evokes the Earth covered in vegetation, vermilion represents the sun, and the dove signifies peace.
