This piece depicts birds along the seashore, created using the dry lacquer technique, with a base made of hemp cloth and lacquer. Mother-of-pearl inlay using white butterfly shell is applied, over which silver maki-e expresses rippling patterns. By preserving the black base, the birds are brought into sharp relief.
