©Graziano VialeMaschera di S’Accabadora
This dark, austere leather mask with severe features and shadowed eyes was commissioned by a women’s group from the Planargia region of central-western Sardinia. The group reconstructed the figure and costume of S’Accabadora, the traditional village figure who served as midwife but was also called, in extremis, to end the suffering of the terminally ill.
