Tawame #1

This is a circular object made by turning high-quality dried Zelkova wood on a woodworking lathe to a thickness of 0.3 mm, then slowly bending and hardening it with lacquer over time. Because multiple layers have been applied, the central area shows the vermillion red showing through, creating a shu-tamari, or pooled vermillion, colour, while the edges are black.
