Suspended Honeycomb Hoops
This sculpture’s two embroidery hoops were suspended in a hive and filled with deep, solid comb. The work is a celebration of female labour. Almost all bees in a hive are female, and hoops appear frequently in Ava’s pieces as a nod to the history of women’s craft and handiwork.
