Samson

Drawing from Edgar Ward's study and deep interest in the Romanesque sculpture of England and France, this high-relief carving depicts many motifs characteristic of the style. In this particular sculpture, Samson is represented in combat with a lion, surrounded by birds and beasts. Below, a complex knotwork scene depicts a bear hunt.
