Indoni III

This smoke-fired, hand-thrown earthenware vessel features unique hanging embellishments. The usage of the word Indoni in Maweni’s title is derived from the isiXhosa phrase indoni yamanzi, berry of the waters, which refers to the beauty of a woman. The loops are inspired by the bold, simplified shapes of traditional jewellery worn on the African continent. The piece is kiln-fired, smoke-fired and burnished for a smooth, shiny surface.
