Pit firing vase

Made on a potter’s wheel, this vase has a rounded shape and a wide mouth. It was burnished before the first firing, at 1,100ºC to achieve smoothness and natural shine. Alfonso Hidalgo Cruz then mixed the object with different materials, such as fabric, metal wool and leaves, as well as giving it a treatment with metal sulfates. The final step is firing it in sawdust and natural fire, which gives it smoky finishes and different textures on the surface.
