This porcelain jar was initially wheel-thrown as a cylinder and then manually worked into its final form. The appearance of the vessel was created by using a smokeless kiln for the firing. As the name suggests, this wood-fired kiln produces almost no smoke but creates the same effect on surfaces as other wood-fired kilns. Renato fired the jar partially in embers to give the surface its distinctive finish.
