Tim & Vaughn: Furniture making

Furniture maker Tim van Caubergh based in France & American fellow Vaughn Gessley

A graduate of Utrecht’s Academy of Arts, Tim was drawn to making from an early age. He is known for his use of lamination, steam bending and sculpting techniques to create flowing shapes. Based in France since 2023, the Dutch artisan is inspired by the nature that surrounds him. He coaches fellow artisans on the technical and aesthetic aspects of working with wood.

Vaughn studied fine woodworking at the Krenov School in Fort Bragg, California. He admires the organic flow and tensioned energy of Tim’s pieces, which carry the essence of the tree through to the finished piece. The importance of creative community inspires him to develop his skills and perspectives through apprenticeships so that he may provide craft education opportunities to others.
