Atang Tshikare leads a 2-hour guided tour of his studio, giving participants a glimpse into his work. The experience begins with the overview of South African design history and a brief look at the many materials used by Atang for his pieces. He shares insights on the weaving styles of neighbouring countries such as Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Eswatini, and how he integrates these into his contemporary creations. Participants will have the chance to see, touch and feel the highly polished wooden artworks that Atang has created in his studio. Understanding the special wood sanding techniques that allow him to achieve a mirror finish smoothness are a highlight. As the visit comes to a close, participants will see some of the sculptor's new experimental work with soil, clay and wood in various textures and colours.
