Visit a carpentry workshop in Reykjavik

with Gústav Jóhannsson

Where style and substance meet

Gústav Jóhannsson comes from a long line of carpenters and cabinetmakers, and he is always delighted to share his passion with visitors to his workshop. This tour centres on the primary materials he uses – the highest quality oak and walnut from Iceland – and the handcrafting process involved in making beautiful furniture. Gústav uses traditional Scandinavian woodworking techniques, and although he jealously guards all his tools, touching with the eyes is still a magical experience! A substantial part of the tour centres on the design process of making furniture and the path from need to creative design to chosen material, where style and substance go hand in hand.
