The golden lines of damascening

Spanish artist Raquel De la Torre Serrano specialises in damascening, an endangered metalworking craft with a longstanding tradition in Toledo. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Raquel will inlay 24-carat gold and silver into carbon steel, creating a decorative design across the dark metal surface. Working on a hand mirror and jewellery pieces, she will also demonstrate stages such as matting and finishing to showcase the different steps involved in completing her pieces.
