The discreet art of restoration

French restorer Yolaine Voltz specialises in the restoration of antique fans, working across the many delicate materials from which these historic objects are made. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Yolaine will restore a selection of antique fans, demonstrating processes such as cleaning, reinforcing tears, filling losses and retouching painted surfaces. She will also carry out structural repairs, from sewing feather fan sticks to replacing ribbons on brisé fans.
