Sculpting stories in cameo

Italian artist Fabio Ottaviano practises cameo making through the traditional art of bas-relief engraving, working entirely by hand with natural materials such as mother-of-pearl, shell and turquoise. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Fabio will reveal how these natural materials are gradually engraved and sculpted into bas-relief. Using specialised burins, he will carve intricate three-dimensional compositions destined for jewellery.
