Revealing the beauty within a gemstone through freeform design

Artist Mark Nuell combines goldsmithing with a lifelong knowledge of precious stones. His distinctive approach to gem cutting uses freeform facets to respond to the individual character of each stone. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Mark will carry out the three principal stages of his gem-cutting process. He will grind the facets of several precious stones before pre-polishing and finally polishing each surface, revealing colour and brilliance.
