Dameon Lynn began by learning the craft and art of ceramics from a book. He bought a cheap second-hand kiln and some clay, and off he went. He started out making “very ugly oil burners” to give friends and family as gifts. Then, to learn more, he started studying ceramics full time at Cardiff University under the tuition of masters Peter Starkey and Geoffrey Swindell. That is why, after years of training and studies, Dameon knows that providing centrifugal force to a mass of clay placed in the centre of a wheel is a true art that requires valuable training both in and out of the classroom. Alongside creating ceramic pieces that fall somewhere between fine art and more functional tableware, the ceramicist organises weekly classes in which he teaches his theoretical and practical skills in wheel throwing. Students do not need any additional knowledge or previous experience. Dameon guarantees small groups and personalised attention to be able to pay the maximum consideration to the needs of each participant.

Wheel throwing, sculpting, modelling, and basic mould making are some of the essential techniques that those who take a lump of clay in their hands must learn to master if they wish to develop the craft of ceramics as a professional activity. But acquiring these routines is not a quick and easy process that is achieved overnight. Mastering all of them is like learning to play the piano or practising a highly competitive sport. It requires many hours of practice, hard work and discipline. Therefore, it is much better to have the help of a tutor who focuses on you and guides your learning process. As a firm believer in personalised and professional training for artisans, Dameon organises individual master classes for intermediate and advanced students who wish to progress their work to infinity and beyond. He structures the courses according to personal needs, with a strong emphasis on advanced working techniques and a clear focus on developing the language and style of the artisan.
