Bibis Castañer Masdeu’s practice centres on the design and creation of decorative elements, custom jewellery and acessories for haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion. Her work is built upon a family tradition of craftsmanship, where she learned early to sketch, etch and shape resin and wood. Today, Bibis makes both annual studio collections and bespoke commissions developed in close dialogue with her clients. She works with organic resins and durable natural pigments to create a distinct colour language of marble-like hues and shimmering finishes. Her technical developments include signature bio-resin ornaments alongside her patented resin-coated Textile Sequin, developed in her Barcelona atelier.
INTERVIEW
I am fascinated by the idea of creating so many different pieces, each being a small world of its own and always representing a challenge. The outcome is a positive surprise, and there is always a lesson to learn and added value in the result.
With great attention to detail, I make sure every piece has a special and unexpected touch: from a vast palette of colours and finishes to delicate elements suspended inside the resin, including gold leaf, flowers, silk threads, feathers and sequins.
Barcelona is a source of inspiration – a cosmopolitan, Mediterranean city rich in colour and energy. I am also influenced by the sea and the horizon of the Costa Brava and the country landscapes of Ampurdán. I feel a deep connection with nature.
I was selected by a committee to display my creations at Maisons d’Exception in Paris. There are also the daily achievements resulting from collaborations with clients, helping them embellishing their creations or designing one-of-a-kind ornaments they commission.
