An artistic spirit
- Yury loves experimenting with different materials
- You can find his works in the Hermitage
- He is inspired by people: artists and architects
Yury Bylkov makes expressive pieces of metal, plastic, ceramic, wire, wood – you name it, he creates it! He is always up for a challenge: "I prefer titan to silver and gold, because it is affordable, hypoallergenic, and yet it’s much more difficult to work with." He started studying jewellery design in 2000, going onto graduate from the Professional Lyceum of Arts and Crafts named after Carl Faberge and St.Petersburg School of Jewelry Craftsmanship in Image and Form. Yury initially worked at manufacturers, he tried all possible professions in the industry, but his artistic spirit demanded way more independence. From 2012 he has worked on his own and it’s proven to be a successful strategy, as he is now well recognized, despite his young age.

INTERVIEW
I've wanted it since I was a child. I wouldn’t take my eyes off a shopping TV channel when they were selling jewellery. I wanted to become the person who creates all those incredible things that people want to buy.
I do, I post a lot of educational videos to my YouTube channel. Some of the students I don’t even know, but I get a lot of appreciative messages from people saying that I inspire them.
If we’re talking about someone else’s work, I’d judge it by originality. Artistic rigour or fearlessness makes me feel envious! In my own work, I’d say the piece must have a certain inner logic and not have anything extra.
Once I got a call from the Western European Jewellery department of the State Hermitage Museum. I was asked to donate a few works of mine to their collection. I swear I lost consciousness for a moment! It is such an honour.
