The wonder of the small things
- Valentina builds paper sculptures and the platforms on which they rest
- She opened her workshop in 2023
- Her creations are poetic landscapes and miniature architectures
Valentina Pucci’s diverse academic background is reflected in her artistic production, in which attention to detail drives her aesthetic style. Her research has always revolved around paper and its shift from 2D to 3D through carving, folding and the use of composition techniques. The result are mini-landscapes and metaphysical architectures in small-scale, where paper meets natural elements such as stones, pebbles and plants. The making of each piece is a journey for Valentina as she ventures into unknown territory, never sketching or planning beforehand. Landscapes appear, empty spaces are filled, a miniature world is constructed. For completeness in her appraisal of this miniature paper world, Valentina values her rapport with the public, that always sparks emotion.

INTERVIEW
My artistic investigation focuses on three-dimensionality and paper is ideal for this. All my work is strictly handmade. I also make my own stands, using a mixture of sand, lime and water.
Paper as a material almost goes unnoticed and we take it for granted. We think of it as a commodity, a support for writing, to convey stories. I also tell stories through my work, and to create my poetic world I found out that paper is the best medium.
My academic background is in anthropology, art and education. I was taught to observe and to appreciate the wonder of the small things of daily life. I also developed a playful eye that allows me to focus on details and express the unexpected.
The interaction with the public is extremely meaningful, and I learned as much from my very first exhibition. I realised you can establish a connection and that the viewer can identify to your work. I always look forward to participating in art shows.
