The jump from science to art
- Sandy studied plant biology at university
- She is drawn to all that is far from the real
- She loves to travel with her mind while working
After university studies in science and a first life working as a quality controller in the food industry, Sandy Pouget felt within her the irrepressible desire to do something else. She sought something that would allow her to travel with fantasy and create with her hands what her mind had imagined. She turned to the papier mâché technique because it is straightforward, of humble origins, used since ancient times. But Sandy ennobles it, creating sculptures of all sizes, for indoor and outdoor environments, ornate and colourful. The result is dreamlike creations, living, strong and powerful but gentle at the same time. Sandy took a leap from science to art, and maintains that both disciplines allow her to observe the world.
INTERVIEW
I generally love what is uncommon, not ordinary. My training led me to study the seabed, characterized by strange conformations. I love the strangest forms. I let myself be inspired by fantasy, by my imagination, which have no boundaries at all.
I am a perfectionist. When I finish a project, I have to leave it to one side, not think about it and not look at it for a while. After a few days, I come back to it and if it satisfies me, then it means it is done well and I am content.
Every time I meet a customer it is a memorable moment because I will learn something new. There is continuous and constant growth, you never stop learning. Certain demands and needs to be met elevate me and push me to do something new.
I love working on a commission with directions to follow. This allows me to explore new spaces that I would not have discovered otherwise. It is very challenging and motivating and this is one of the things I love most about my work.
