Rikke Lunnemann

Jewellery maker

Precious pearls

  • Rikke was born on the Faroe Islands
  • She is inspired by H.C Andersen's fairy tales
  • Her jewellery has been exhibited around the world

Rikke Lunnemann creates poetic jewellery that tells stories from everyday life, like a coffee stain, a bird in a tree or a band-aid gilded in 24-carat gold. From her workshop in Svendborg in the south of the island of Funen, Rikke makes storytelling pieces in gold, silver, gemstones and pearls. Her jewellery is never loud but delicate and subtle, like the ring with layers of gold 'mattresses' with a small diamond hidden between as a reference to H. C. Andersen's fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. Gold never ceases to amaze Rikke because it is Mother Earth’s natural mineral and holds infinite possibilities for transformation and interpretation. Her precious jewellery stories transfer joy and inspiration to those who wear them.

Why did you become a jewellery maker?
I often pondered in front of the goldsmith's window as a small girl. The shop in my town used to have loose gemstones in the window, and their magic spellbound me. That fascination has never left me.
What do you love about designing jewellery?
I love to immerse myself in the process. Gold is a stunning material with many technical options and diverse presentations from hard and cold to invincible metal and soft shapes able to express emotions like love and frailty.
What inspires you?
My jewellery interprets small everyday moments in silver and gold and is inspired by nature and family. There is a personal story behind each piece. My jewellery can be cherished for the rest of your life.
What is the potential of jewellery?
To me, a piece of jewellery is not just a piece but it tells a narrative. The particular story sparkles emotions, reflections and events; without these stories, the pieces are just metals and gemstones. The story bridges precious metal with a meaningful purpose.
