Piedàterre Venezia

Shoemaking

Venice, Italy

A Venetian legacy of footwear

Piedàterre Venezia's shoemaking history began after World War II, a period marked by widespread shortages. This scarcity led to the creation of shoes with soles made from rubber bicycle wheels and uppers crafted from velvet. First created in Friuli, this special footwear was then commercialised in Venice, where it became known worldwide as Venetian Slippers. In 1952, Piedàterre Venezia started selling slippers out of baskets and carts on the Rialto Bridge, before opening its first boutique in San Polo.

Piedàterre Venezia, a steadfast guardian of a local tradition, is exclusively dedicated to creating the authentic Venetian slipper. The manufacturer deliberately chooses preservation over reinvention. Keeping production entirely manual, every pair is rigorously made in Italy with no outsourced materials. Each pair is crafted using natural cotton velvet, and is hand stitched without glue to ensure comfort, breathability and ecological mindfulness. Based in both Venice's San Marco and San Polo, Piedàterre Venezia welcomes clients in-store and connects its historic footwear to a global audience through worldwide shipping.
