Ceramics of calm

Patricia enjoys creating timeless pieces with clean lines and neutral tones
She initially set up her studio in Barcelona but moved to Edinburgh to continue her practice
Her signature aesthetic aims to bring calm to its surroundings

Patricia García has always been drawn to music, arts and crafts. She started making pottery at a very young age and continued taking classes during her teenage years in high school. Later, she enrolled in a ceramics school in Barcelona where she trained professionally. Her desire to develop her creativity and express herself through this craft led her to set up her studio, Blanc Ceramics, in Barcelona. In 2023 Patricia moved to Edinburgh where she set up her studio alongside ceramicist partner Borja Moronta. There, she takes all the time she needs to think, imagine and create her pieces. "I want to continue learning, evolving and being part of projects that enrich me."

What is your creative process?: I usually start with an idea, image or feeling that brings me calm. My work pays tribute to time: time to think, imagine and stop. I have a sketchbook where I write ideas and draw. Then I go on fine-tuning all the details of my pieces before creating with the material.
How would you define your craft?: The process is entirely handcrafted from start to finish. My work aims to highlight the beauty of simplicity and the character of handmade objects by creating pieces that bring calm to their settings.
What makes your pieces distinctive?: Each one of my pieces is a unique expression. I make them carefully, using modelling techniques and the potter's wheel. It is a slow process in which I respect natural production times when designing, shaping, drying, firing and glazing.
What are your sources of inspiration?: I like to observe everything around me and cultivate my sensitivity when perceiving the world. Travels, music, people and art inspire me. I am fascinated by the details of the objects I discover. In fact, these details are the ones that give personality to my handmade pieces.
