INTERVIEW
Many people are surprised to discover how bookbinding can go far beyond the book itself. Over the years, I have created paper-based objects, gift items and even board games.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that the value of an object depends above all on the mastery with which the materials are worked. Even simple or humble materials can be transformed into precious objects when interpreted through techniques refined by experience and continuous research. I have also learned that curiosity and the ability to question oneself are essential in order to continue growing as a craftsperson.
Over the years, I have been inspired by many different artistic periods and traditions. Venetian and Byzantine culture have had a great influence on my work, as have the ancient and modern geometric patterns used in architecture to decorate ceilings and floors. I am fascinated by symbols and decorative motifs.
Today, the greatest challenge is keeping alive an awareness of the value of craftsmanship. We live in an age in which almost everything is immediately available and can be purchased with ease. People often no longer question the creative process and the work behind an object.
