Mungo produces woven textiles and homeware in Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. Founded in 1998 by Stuart Holding, who trained in Yorkshire’s silk mills, the manufacturer opened with two Lancashire shuttle looms and a goal to make timeless, well-crafted fabrics. Today, Mungo is led by Stuart's children, Tessa and Dax, and employs over 100 people. With transparency as a cornerstone, the mill is open to the public. By showing the full process, it aims to give visitors a deeper appreciation for both the products they buy and the artisans who make them.
Mungo creates modern heirlooms using ancient techniques, with its two original looms still in use. In 2020, it became South Africa’s first GOTS-certified textile weaving mill. Working exclusively with natural fibres, such as organic cotton and linen, the manufacturer is globally known for its home textiles, including towels and bed linens, distinguished by Mungo’s hallmark patterns, textures and colour palettes.
