The pursuit of excellence

  • Weronika and Dawid met at university
  • They founded the ceramic workshop Barite
  • Their porcelain is defined by its whiteness

When two artistic ideas are blended such that you can’t distinguish whose project it was in the beginning, you know it is a perfect fusion. That is how Weronika Lucińska and Dawid Żynda decided to embrace this collaboration and create a brand, Barite. They met at the Faculty of Ceramic and Glass Design at the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts. Both started their professional experience in Polish porcelain manufacturers and specialise in throwing on the potter's wheel. For their joint project, they combine high-quality functional porcelain with a modern design. “Dawid has a technical approach and searches for a solution to the toughest problems. Whereas, I work on the artistic layer, looking for interesting forms that are almost impossible to make,” smiles Weronika.

What is the meaning behind the name Barite?
In the past, porcelain was compared to Baryte, a raw mineral that has a perfect white hue. For us, this pure white ceramic is a symbol of excellence in every respect, both technically and in terms of design.
How do you achieve your white porcelain?
We use gas kilns of our own design, where we fire porcelain at a temperature of up to 1410 degrees Celsius. Today, such a temperature is not even used in porcelain factories. Thanks to this we can obtain not only its incredible whiteness, but also a more resilient porcelain.
How do you combine your styles at work?
Through our differences. That is why we work well together. If we agreed all the time, we would not have such an interesting relationship with this project. These differences allow us to discover new paths and methods to achieve our final design.
What is your vision for Barite?
All our objects are functional and we would like to continue to develop unique porcelain pieces that require a very precise and very detailed manual execution. This will certainly remain the core of our work. We also wish to further explore ceramic lighting design.
