Timmi B. Kromann is a master knitter and the owner of Kokolores, located in Svaneke on Bornholm, the most remote island in Denmark. She specialises in handcrafting simplicity and functionality in her knitwear. Timmi is a graduate of the Bornholm Textile College. She works with ancient knitting techniques and uses wool almost as a symbolic material of Scandinavian textile heritage. Timmi conducts extensive material research and has developed a contemporary expression in both her serial production and her limited creations. In her serial productions, she creates long-lasting items, focusing on form and constantly trying to challenge materials and techniques in search for individual expression. With her one-off pieces, Timmi takes a bold artistic step and merges her technical prowess with her fascination for nature.

INTERVIEW
There is no knitting tradition specific to Bornholm. I base my work on Nordic knitting traditions. I use the specific nature of the island of Bornholm – which is unlike anywhere else in Denmark – as a source of inspiration.
My work is motivated by my fascination with the versatility of wool, its almost endless possibilities, and its potential for transformation. I use wool as a typical traditional material, which has its origin in the Scandinavian craft heritage.
Inspiration is Latin for 'the act of breathing in'. Sometimes I compare my work with the work of an interpreter or transformer. I am 'inhaling' inspiration from my surroundings and working with them actively. This requires practice, observation, knowledge and imagination.
My work is always a process of getting to the essentials. I remove all unnecessary elements and concentrate on what I feel is important. I want to see clearly and distinctly, to concentrate on the essentials without being confused or distracted.
