Josefa García Lozano

Revenga Chemisiers Genevois
Shirtmaker

A grandmother's legacy

  • Josefa’s grandmother is one of her biggest inspirations
  • She has always loved creating unique clothes
  • She founded Revenga House in June 2017

The first time Josefa Garcia Lozano thought of becoming a shirtmaker and a designer was during her childhood. Back then, her grandmother worked as a tailor and shirtmaker in a small village in Spain. She was the first person to provide her with training and taught her sewing and embroidery skills. She used to make clothes for pleasure during the weekends and in her free time before deciding to take a specialised course and found her own brand. The Revenga House was founded in June 2017 with the support of Josefa’s two sons. Many of her techniques stem from the know-how of the master shirtmaker Marc Crausaz from Geneva and it produces shirts, dresses and other custom tailored products with passion and attention to detail.

What was the first item you sewed?
The first garment I made was a skirt. On the year of my 20th birthday, four years after my grandmother’s death, I started making dresses and skirts for one of my sisters and myself.
What are your sources of inspiration?
My grandmother was one of my biggest inspirations, due to her profession but also her attitude. She taught me that work must always be done well, with passion and attention to detail.
Why did you choose this specific craft?
It is a means of paying homage to my family origins. My grandmother spent a lot of time with me and was convinced that clothes making was a profession that would make me feel emancipated, and she was so right.
How is your craft linked to Geneva?
The method I use is unique, as it is a blend of technical expertise taught by the Sitam Institute and of traditional know-how stemming from the methods of Mr Marc Crauzas, who used to be a shirtmaker here in Geneva.
Josefa García Lozano is an expert artisan: she began her career in 2008
