Clay to share emotions
- Giorgia makes ceramic sculptures with coiling
- She lives by a philosophy of light and harmony
- She exchanges regularly with her master
Since she was a child, Giorgia Piu has been fascinated by the Persian name Nour, meaning 'light', a divine light, evoking kindness and balance. Giorgia was born in Rome and still lives there. She used to express her creativity through painting and drawing until she attended the Matilde Tibuzzi Lab123 workshop in Rome, and really found ceramics. "Master ceramicist Libero Ortuso changed my life, by teaching me a new way to experience creativity, with freedom and a positive approach," she says. "Every sculpture is a journey that stems from the dialogue between ideas, feelings and clay." Since 2025, Giorgia has returned to painting, which has become a central part of her practice alongside ceramics.

INTERVIEW
I used to paint and draw but I was still looking for the best way to communicate my thoughts and feelings. When I started to work with clay using the coiling technique, I simply fell in love with ceramics. I understood that it was my personal and professional turning point.
Clay is a living material, so I keep on exploring. In my work I always try to combine roots and creativity, translating them into volumes, shapes, fluidity, lightness. Usually, I prefer to work with small-scale creations, then I reproduce them on a large or medium scale.
Before I had my atelier, I worked in a dedicated area of my home, 24 hours a day, enjoying the evolutions of my material and waiting for the result. Now, everything is different and much better – my atelier is near my master’s studio so I can share ideas with him more easily.
I clearly remember the first time somebody asked me to reproduce one of my sculptures for them, a piece born from nothing but my personal inspiration. It was a surprise and a priceless emotion.
