In the Bavarian Mittelwald region in Germany, a luthier tradition of over 300 years thrives. This region is also the birthplace of Geigenbau Leonhardt’s instrument-making, repair, and restoration history. It began almost 100 years ago with its founding father Anton Dietl, who opened the first workshop in 1926. Today, the fourth generation of skilled artisans carries on the tradition of continuously catering to musicians’ unique needs. In an impressive wood storage, spruce and maple tonewoods are matured, destined to harmonise as violins, violas, cellos, and contrabasses.
Geigenbau Leonhardt emphasises sustainability and the atelier exclusively buys wood that has been felled at the right phase of the moon. Every Geigenbau Leonhardt instrument receives the unmistakable seal of quality: the lyre burnt into the wood, twice. Recognised by numerous national and international awards, Geigenbau Leonhardt's craftsmanship is steeped in tradition yet ever-evolving.
