  • His clean designs and respect for wood mirror his work and life ethics

After a variety of enriching experiences around the world, in 2017 Fabrizio Lo Faro returned to his Sicilian hometown Messina, to become a cabinetmaker. Today he runs his freshly inaugurated cabinetmaking atelier, with the clear purpose of becoming something more for the local community. The name of his workshop, Eden Eban, conveys his profound passion and sincere dedication to his craft. Fabrizio creates clean, pure designs which respect and enhance wood and its features – including imperfections – and to last over time. His ethical mission, which will be fully accomplished when Fabrizio finally makes his next dream come true, is to set up a cabinetmaking school, to help others discover their creative side.

How was your life before opening your own atelier?
After I graduated in geology at 24, I travelled around the world and experienced different ways of working and living. I was a geologist in an Australian mine, on the oil platforms of the Northern Sea, and went backpacking in South East Asia, just to name a few.
What were you looking for and where did you find it?
A new way of life and work, a more creative one, aligned with my ethics. When I came back to Sicily, I started working wood with a friend and soon cabinetmaking revealed itself as the passion I was looking for. I moved to Cornwall, to the David Savage Woodworking school, which provided me with the full education I needed to start my practice.
What is your craft for you, today?
My craft is a life choice, not just a job. I feel like I have a mission to express myself through drawing, prototyping and hand-making objects with a meaning. I aim for clean and pure designs, simple and ingenious joints and an utmost respect of the wood, of its grain and imperfections.
Is your mission accomplished now?
I come from a family of teachers and I guess this is why my ultimate mission is not just to refine my practice and create my own line of pieces, but also to establish a cabinetmaking school in Messina. I would love to help others to find and express their own creativity.
