Atelier Arc en Lune
Wire sculptor

Crafting the intent gaze of wire figures

  • Fabienne began experimenting with metal wire in 2012
  • Her work is deeply influenced by nature and animals
  • Each sculpture begins with a single wire

Fabienne Quenard is a self-taught artist from a family in which art has always held an important place. From a young age, she experimented with various materials and techniques, but discovering Alexander Calder’s work was a turning point for her. Fabienne developed her own wire-shaping technique, working exclusively by hand with pliers, twisting and knotting the metal without mechanical welding. Each piece she makes is unique, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. She embraces asymmetry, favouring dynamic lines that bring movement and character to her work. "Working with metal wire offers a freedom similar to drawing, yet without the constraints of paper," confides Fabienne. "Each piece is an adventure and a challenge that I take on with passion, never knowing exactly where it will lead me." In 2022, she set up her workshop in the vineyards, a setting that continually inspires her.

How would you describe your artistic style?
I focus on details, especially faces and eyes. Visitors often tell me that my style is recognisable by its uniqueness, femininity and poetry.
How does your environment influence your work?
I live and work surrounded by nature, with my workshop located in the vineyards. My creations are inspired by the plants, characters and mountain animals around me. My first piece was the bust of a cow, reflecting this deep connection to the land.
What challenges do you face in your craft?
The art of metal wirework does not have a real tradition. It suffers from a somewhat negative connotation and lacks recognition in the art world. It deserves to be brought more into the spotlight.
Can technological advancements impact your craft?
Yes. The rise of artificial intelligence could potentially threaten professions like mine, as it can easily replicate my pieces.
