Filigree glass maker

  • Frédéric started this craft at the age of 15
  • He received the Meilleur Ouvrier de France title in 2019
  • His work has the "Valeurs Parc Naturel Régional" label

After a visit to see glassmakers with his father, Frédéric Demoisson knew that this was what he wanted to do with his life. He started his apprenticeship at the age of 15 as a glassblower and opened his own workshop in Lorraine in 2002. He is also a trainer at the Centre Européen de Recherche et de formation aux arts verriers. He is a torch glass blower but his speciality is filigree glass and reticello. Nature and everyday life inspire his creations. For Frédéric, to be a glassblower you must first of all be passionate, but also be dedicated to your work. Precise gestures must become automatic and for that nothing is better than repeating the same gestures over and over again.

Frédéric Demoisson is a master artisan: he began his career in 1991 and he started teaching in 2017

INTERVIEW

Working with glass fascinates me, seeing this material in fusion and movement gives me the shivers, the possibilities are infinite in this field, we are talking about a passionate profession: once you start, you don’t stop.

I am a glassblower, I work with glass on small and medium series. I work a lot on request to realize unique pieces for private individuals as well as for many other artists, creators and jewellers.

I often work by watching films and I make the same piece several times to get it right.

My piece for the Meilleurs Ouvrier de France competition. For me, it is the piece of a lifetime. The medal ceremony at the Sorbonne followed by a ceremony at the Elysée Palace with the President of the Republic was a great honour.
