Boselie van Boekel has been making handcrafted frames in any style since 1979. The Dutch atelier also restores works of art and frames. It is a specialist in gilding, a craft in itself. The company was called Boselie until 2008, when current owner Sander van Boekel took over. Boselie van Boekel combines modern methods and ancient techniques. Its craftspeople first cut, assemble, glue and mitre profiles from plain wood. For frames with ornamental detailing, they draw designs on the profile and go to work with gouges and chisels. They can also model ornaments on the frame with a plaster mix or compo. The range of finishing options is almost infinite.
From pigments to lacquers, gold, palladium and patina for colouring frames, to adding inlays such as mother-of-pearl, brass or veneer, the atelier is considerate in creating the right style, with the right techniques and period in mind. The atelier works on frames from the 16th to the 21st century. Boselie van Boekel’s showroom exhibits about 300 frames. The atelier delivers traditional craftsmanship and made-to-measure work. Its clients are museums, art collectors, interior designers, private customers, galleries and art handlers.
