Social responsibility meets craftsmanship

The Danish term Blindes Arbejde literally translates into 'Work of the Blind', which describes precisely what this long-established workshop does. Blindes Arbejde was established in 1929 as a business fund seeking to engage visually-impaired and blind people by structuring a workplace where they could manufacture auxiliary items such as brooms, brushes, textiles and baskets. Quality and durability are the cornerstone of the making of these household and private business objects.

Blindes Arbejde’s vision and core values are to maintain a trinity of quality craftsmanship within a socially responsible and ethical production. This means people who otherwise have difficulty finding their place in the labour market get the opportunity to create meaningful, quality work that is both sustainable and affordable. Another imperative was integrating the workplace and shop to accommodate the workers with easy accessibility while creating a unique atmosphere and experience for customers visiting one of the five shops in Denmark.
