A.W. Bauer was founded in 1863 by Julius W. Bauer in Stockholm. It is considered the oldest bespoke tailoring atelier in Sweden and has had the honour of dressing some of the region’s most prominent figures, including members of royalty. The story of A.W. Bauer is one of enduring traditions and remarkable transformation. Once known for its exclusivity and the legendary expertise of its former owners, the atelier has evolved significantly under the guidance of in-house master cutter Frederik Andersen and associate Martin Ekolin. Frederik first joined the atelier as an apprentice, mastering working methods and a wide range of techniques such as hand drafting patterns, taught by the previous owners. From this foundation, he developed his own distinctive modern style while respecting tradition.
Today, Frederik brings a fresh and welcoming energy to the atelier. He places the client at the heart of the process while generously sharing his precious knowledge with the younger generation. A.W. Bauer is a celebration of slow making, quality and craftsmanship legacy, where every detail from the client’s initial request to the final fitting becomes part of a tailor-made journey. "Listening, understanding, and inspiring the client’s vision is at the heart of what we do," says Frederik. The atelier is composed of seven highly skills artisans who know how to work on a remarkable selection of fabrics. "A typical suit requires a minimum of 65 hours of meticulous work and can take up to six months to complete," he adds.
