Leo Aerts, Belgian interior architect, established Alinea Design Objects in 1995 with a singular concept in mind: creating furniture with the solid foundations of architecture – grounded in structure and stripped of anything nonessential. Rather than viewing a table or cabinet as a standalone object, Leo approaches each piece as part of a broader spatial narrative. "The scale, proportions and detailing of a piece are all inspired by understanding how people move through a space, how light falls and how volumes relate to one another," he says. This attention to detail extends to the materials used, from marble and silver to wood and glass, which are selected for their enduring qualities and timeless character.
The work of Alinea Design Objects centres on balanced forms and precise craftsmanship, with each piece designed to feel just as relevant today as it will decades from now. Working with a small network of local artisans, the manufacturer crafts furniture built to last and to bring a quiet presence to its surroundings. “In essence, I think of furniture as architectural microstructures – functional, sculptural and attuned to the human experience,” Leo says.
