Wind is blowing II

This sculpture by Nan Wei was created by stretching leather into form, then saturating it with urushi lacquer. Layers of linen and ash powder were then added and sealed, following a process inspired by Japanese shippi lacquerware techniques. Using folds, curves and reflections to evoke an invisible current of air, the piece seems to retain the memory of a movement still in flow.
