Arts' Ghosts

This sculpture by Daniel Lizarralde Aguirre was carved from a single block of wood using gouges, scalpels and other fine carving tools. The surface was left unvarnished to preserve the scent of the wood. Inspired by Grinling Gibbons’ point lace cravat, the piece invites attention to the movement and fluidity of lace-like forms, while incorporating oak, ash and limewood leaves. Hidden ghostly eyes emerge within the carving, suggesting how experiences subtly transform perception.
