This standalone sculpture of a blue iris depicts the dying stage of flowering. The once vivid purple petals are shown as crinkled, veined and fading. The leaves are bleached and dry, and the clay bulb is rotting and black. Rather than depicting a famed flower in its prime, Withering urges a closer look at decay, asking the viewer to find beauty in that which is fading.
