In this piece, a tall, narrow-footed ceramic vessel appears ancient and contemporary at once. Its fired clay surface takes on the appearance of torn cardboard and is divided into shard-like sections, painted in blue and white with marine motifs. Rodrigo Torres plays with the visual uncertainty of discarded material, turning clay into an object that seems both fragile and permanent.
