French luthier Joël Laplane is specialised in crafting classical and flamenco guitars. His practice combines traditional guitar making with a deep understanding of physics and acoustics. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Joël will reveal two stages in the making of a concert guitar. Using knives and chisels, he will sculpt his signature design into a guitar headstock made from Bolivian cedar and rosewood, before working on the instrument’s internal structure with chisels and a small plane, offering an up-close view of details normally hidden inside the finished guitar.
