The Argentinian saddle, from pattern to form

26/09/2026 | 30/09/2026Esposto in AN ATELIER ALIVE

Traditional Argentinian saddle making by Álvaro Cuitiño Fragapani brings together leatherworking, pattern cutting and hand stitching to construct an object in which numerous individual components must be precisely shaped and assembled. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Álvaro will create a saddle from beginning to end. Starting with cardboard patterns, the different sections will be cut from fabric and leather, glued and sewn, while the stirrups, leather straps and accessories are prepared separately. The saddle will gradually take shape before the eyes of the public, with its components assembled and finished through hand stitching with greased thread.
