Carlos Ballesteros' practice focuses on the restoration of Roman and Nolla mosaics, as well as the creation of small pieces, large-scale murals and architectural coverings. As a child, he was captivated by the mosaic-covered exterior wall of the Hospital de Sant Pau while riding the bus. "I felt a mixture of curiosity and fascination," recalls Carlos. He enrolled at the Escola-Taller del Laberint d'Horta to build technical skills and fund his university studies. Drawn to the craft, he chose to join a mosaic workshop, a decision that defines his artistic practice today. Carlos collaborates with artists on different projects, including Albert Ràfols-Casamada and María Yelletisch. "I believe mosaic can be used to reproduce all kinds of pictorial styles, from classical to avant-garde," he says.
