Breaking Borders

Breaking Borders is inspired by the charity ‘Bees and Refugees’ set up by Ali Alzein and reflects on the experiences and displacement of refugees. The project is about protecting honeybees and other pollinating insects, while helping refugees who may be struggling to adjust to their new lives. The object comprises hexagonal patinated steel shapes arranged to form the structure of honeycombs within a bee hive. The object features suspended elements and enamelled panels sharing information about the bees in Ali’s and his Grandpa’s handwriting.
