Planet Earth

This micro-mosaic of Planet Earth was made using the Roman cutting technique. Based on an original photo taken from the Geosat satellite, the planet is mounted on a single slab of milky-black marble (Brazilian granite). The seas and oceans were created using lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone prized since antiquity for its deep blue colour.
